Before the various named OG Kush phenotypes emerged, the lineage carried different designations. Pure Kush was among the earliest of these original identities—predating the addition of "OG" (standing for original) to the strain's nomenclature. This foundational Kush cultivar was carefully maintained and cultivated in the Hollywood Hills region.

The Hollywood Pure Kush variety, commonly abbreviated HPK, earned respect within cannabis circles for its authenticity and representation of the ancestral genetics. HPK stands as a faithful recreation of the initial cultivar, maintaining the same fundamental characteristics.
