Velvet Purps

Velvet Purps is the signature cultivar of Sun Roots Farm, an off-grid family farm in Covelo, Mendocino County, California, run by Forrest Gauder and Patricia Vargas. The farm is known for regenerative, beyond-organic methods and was named Regenerative Farm of the Year at the 2018 Emerald Cup. Velvet Purps was developed over roughly ten years from Jah Goo and T2 stock: it is listed as Jah Goo x Magic Bus, where Magic Bus is itself T2 x Jah Goo, so the line behaves as a repeated Jah Goo backcross. Plants are grown from seed every season and finish with emerald green foliage, deep purple anthocyanin colouring and trichome-heavy buds.

Consumers report a calm, relaxing effect that suits evening use. Reviews describe a gentle build behind the eyes, a happy and slightly giggly mood, then a body-focused calm that does not fully sedate. One published lab test measured 18.3% THC with about 21% total cannabinoids, while AllBud lists a lower 16%. CBD figures have not been published.

The aroma is berry and pine over earthy, woody ground, with grape, lavender and forest notes in tasting reports, and a dispensary listing shows myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene as the main terpenes. Velvet Purps is a full-sun outdoor cultivar selected for mould, pest and frost resilience in Mendocino conditions. It is not sold as seed, so no flowering time, height or yield figures have been published, and the farm keeps the genetics exclusive to itself and a few partners.
